To be competitive in your marketplace, you must establish a presence and a reputation for what your company does. Business gurus have coined the phrase “branding” to describe the process of developing that presence and reputation.

The key to this process is to identify what message you want to communicate with your company. What is the one thing that is most significant in your company that sets you apart from your competitors? It is that one thing that you want to communicate over and over again. Make it a part of all of your promotional efforts. Include information about this difference in all of your customer and vendor communications. Use every opportunity – in person and in writing – to relay your message.

Then, follow through on these efforts. Live up to your difference in all that you do. Make certain that the quality and performance of your services is consistent with the message
